He is a Keeper! Psalm 121

You’ve heard the expression before, “he or she is a keeper!”

It’s when a person does or behave in a way that you want to keep them around you.

Well, the other day a friend of mine did something that was so kind that I said, yep- she is certainly a keeper.  I will keep her as a friend because of her unselfish and kind act of love towards me and my ministry.

A keeper is defined by Webster’s as: one who keeps or protects.  It can also be a person who is a gamekeeper, warden, or custodian.  Basically it is one suitable for or worth keeping: as (1): a fruit or vegetable that keeps well (2): a fish large enough to be legally caught and kept (3): one having genuine or lasting merit.

So do you know someone who is a keeper?  I do.  I know a God who is a good keeper. In fact, He is a covenant keeping God!  Oh, yes He is!

Did you know therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations?  Deuteronomy 7:9.

Yes, that’s right!  He keeps his commandments towards us to a thousand generations.  Our God is so gracious towards us.

The psalmist stated, “I will lift up my eyes to the hills.  From where does my help come? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth. He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

The LORD is your keeper; the LORD is your shade on your right hand.  The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.

The LORD will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life.

The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.” (Psalm 121 ESV)  Amen!

Thus, we are reminded by this psalm that we are to look up and know that all of our help comes from the Lord; the author and finisher of our faith; and the creator and sustainer of the universe.

We are also reminded that God himself will keep us.  He will have charge of our lives because we trust in Him.

We also need to keep in mind that God not only guards, keep watch and ward, protect, and save our lives but as a keeper, He serves as a watchman over us as well and in the region where we dwell.

He observes, keeps, retain, restrain and treasure up in memory our actions, any deeds and promises that have been spoken over our lives.

He is my keeper!  Is He your keeper!?

We need to believe that God will keep us from evil.

Finally, we need to know that God will keep our lives as we go about our daily activities.  We have no fear because He will keep us as we go out and come in.

So God is a keeper my brother and my sister!

Is He your keeper? Because He will keep you if you truly want to be kept!

Yep, He’s my keeper.

I am going to keep Him around forever and ever and pray that He keeps me around from this time forth and forevermore because I simply want to be kept by God.

How about you?
