Rev. Caffie J. Risher

Rev. Caffie Jeanette Risher is president and founder of Good Mourning Ministry: a Bereavement, Loss and Grief Center.

Rev. Caffie is an exceptional communicator, addressing diverse groups on a variety of topics, including bereavement, loss and grief recovery, prayer, and ministry to women. Her work in the religious sector has included authoring a home and hospital visitation ministry training manual; contributing her expertise to ministry to prisoners; ministry for the disabled; ministry to young adults and the development of More Than Survivors: a support group for female survivors of sexual abuse which is currently being used by Christ Church under the leadership of Dr. David Ireland.

Rev. Caffie’s work has also included the development of Christian education curricula e.g., Matters of Life and Death: A Workshop on the Journey of Grief for the Congress of Christian Education – 29th Annual Worker’s Conference and Ministry to Death and Dying at the North Jersey District Missionary Baptist Association – 94th Semi-Annual Session and Congress of Christian Education. She also facilitated “How to Help Hurting People” at North Jersey District Annual Leadership Institute week. Additionally, she teaches Death and Dying to undergraduate students.  This course provides students with the biological, sociological, and psychological perspectives of death, dying and bereavement in our society and around the world. Topics include euthanasia, suicide, terminal illness, funeral and burial rituals, culture, ethical values and problems related to death in contemporary society.

Rev. Caffie is the recipient of the American Academy of Grief Counseling – Grief Counseling for the Helping Professions certificate; the Chaplains Professional Development Institute Certificate of Completion for Ethics: Contemporary Issues and Options and the Nondenominational Movement and Chaplaincy; Tapestries by Life Choice which is a specialized Hospice Program for those with Alzheimer’s and other Dementias; Theophostic Ministry: a ministry based upon biblical principles of inner healing.

Additionally, Rev. Risher holds the following certificates: Grief Recovery; Clinical Pastoral Education – Chaplaincy Program from Valley Hospital, End of Life Doula program from Valley Hospital and Valley Hospice Educational Training, Ridgewood, NJ.;  V.I.P. Instructor Training for the Prison Fellowship Ministries; Dennis Cramer Prophetic Ministries-School of the Prophets (Levels I and II); Victory Ministries – Ministering Spiritual Gift; the Entrepreneurial Training Institute; the Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Paterson program; William Paterson University’s Non Profit and Management Certificate Program; Bergen Community College’s Non Profit Leadership Certificate Program; and Bergen Leads: a Bergen County Certificate Leadership Program.

Moreover, she is a member of ADEC, the Association of Death Educators and Counselors; The American Academy of Grief Counseling; Association of Professional Chaplains, and the American Association of Pastoral Counselors.

In addition, Rev. Caffie has hosted her own Public Cable Access show, “GetUP: An Urban Perspective” and designed, developed, produced and hosted a weekly international short-wave radio broadcast ministry for culturally diverse audiences in China, Asia, Hawaii, Africa, the Middle East, Russia and Europe with LeSea Broadcasting; a division of World Harvest Radio where the late Apostle Lester Sumrall was both the president and founder.

Rev. Caffie has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications with a minor in TV and Radio Broadcasting from Fairleigh Dickinson University; a Master of Arts degree in Corporate and Public Communications with a minor in Non-profit Management from Seton Hall University; and a Master of Divinity degree from New Brunswick Theological Seminary where she also successfully served as Student Society of Inquiry Chaplain (2001-2002) and President of the Association of the Black Seminarians for the 2007-2008 academic year.

Rev. Caffie is bi-vocational and was appointed “Minority Scholar” by the Board of Trustees at Passaic County Community College for the 2002-2003 academic year. Presently she is a tenured assistant professor in the Fine and Performing Arts Department where she teaches Public Speaking, Voice and Articulation, Business Communication, and Business Writing courses to a diverse student body population.  Respectively, she serves as chair of the Academic Advisement Committee.

Rev. Caffie also taught for two years for the New York Theological Seminary in the Certificate in Ministry Program.

Rev. Caffie previously lectured at Fairleigh Dickinson University – Silberman College of Business, Madison, NJ where she taught Executive Communication and Leadership to MBA students for nine years. Moreover, she was a visiting specialist at Montclair State University where she taught a capstone course on Careers in Communication. And as a former director of training and development for a major ethnic satellite television international broadcasting company, she holds numerous training and development certificates and human resources certificates from the New Jersey State Department of Labor. In addition, she was also presented with a General Assembly Citation for commendations and praise for demonstrating outstanding dedication to the church and community on behalf of the 35th Legislative District of the State of New Jersey.

Her life’s scripture is Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.” Rev. Caffie has purpose and loves God and His people with her whole heart and is committed to the edifying of the body of Christ till we all come in the unity of the faith, the knowledge of the Son of God and the full measure of the Holy Ghost.

She was born and raised in the great Silk City of Paterson and currently resides in Woodland Park, NJ.
